The recent Digital Health Festival (DHF) provided a rich and timely perspective on the evolving role of technology across the health, community, disability, and aged care sectors in Australasia. Held over two days, the conference brought together industry professionals to share insights, explore new technologies, and discuss emerging approaches to service delivery.
With the theme “Transforming Healthcare Through Connection”, this year’s event truly captured the spirit of collaboration and innovation that is driving the sector forward. Conversations ranged from government policy reforms to the transformative potential of technologies such as generative AI, highlighting the dynamic landscape in which we operate.
As both CEO of Fraame Healthcare and Co-Chair of the Digital Health Association’s HealthTech International Industry Group, Gavin had the opportunity to reflect on the current state of the industry, contribute to discussions, and engage with leaders shaping the future of healthcare. Events like DHF are critical touchpoints that allow us to evaluate where we are as a sector, and more importantly, where we’re heading.
One of the opportunities involved meeting with the Hon. Matt Doocey, New Zealand’s Associate Minister of Health and Minister of Mental Health. Our discussion centred around the importance of digital innovation in enhancing care outcomes and the vital role the NGO sector plays particularly in areas such as mental health. Minister Doocey’s clear commitment to leveraging digital technologies in care delivery was both encouraging and affirming.
In addition, the presence of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise at the event showcased the strength and global relevance of New Zealand’s digital health capabilities. Their platform continues to be an important vehicle for promoting homegrown innovation and building international awareness.
As we look ahead, it’s clear that meaningful change will come through continued collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and a shared commitment to harnessing technology for better health outcomes. Events like DHF not only inform, but they inspire action.
